Crispy Teriyaki Tofu

Instructions

Step 1:

Drain and press your tofu to remove excess water. The longer it's pressed the more water that will be removed.

Step 2:

Once pressed, break into small pieces and pour the 2 Tbsp soy sauce and sesame oil over. Toss to coat.

Step 3:

Add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and toss until each piece is covered.

Step 4:

Set aside and add the neutral oil to pan over medium heat. Alternatively, these can be air fried at 400º for 12-15 minutes.

Step 5:

When the oil is hot, add the tofu pieces and cook 2-3 minutes per side or until gold brown.

Step 6:

Remove and add to a towel lined dish to absorb oil and cool.

Step 7:

Make the teriyaki sauce by adding 1/4 cup soy sauce, ginger, garlic, brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with the water, all into a saucepan over medium heat.

Step 8:

Stirring occasionally, bring to a low simmer until the mixture thickens. When reached your desired consistency or the mixture coats the back of spoon, it's ready (about 5 minutes.) Remove and toss with the tofu pieces.

Step 9:

Serve topped with sesame seeds or green onions and rice or noodles. Enjoy!

  1. Me and my husband are becoming vegetarians and this was our first time eating tofu! The recipe was great and the tofu was super crispy. My sauce did turn out a bit thick and wouldn’t coat the chicken though haha

    1. Hi Emily! Thanks so glad you liked the tofu! I see the problem, there was a typo in the amount of cornstarch that has now been fixed. So sorry your sauce came out too thick because of that! Appreciate the review and keep on cooking 🙂

  2. Hello~
I made this today and made some changes, since I didn’t had few ingredients and it still turned out great! My family loved it!
I did everything the same but at the same time different, I substituted tofu with cottage cheese (paneer) and added some green chilli paste since my family loves spicy and a little bit of honey on top as it becomes a mix of savoury and spicy. But it was great! Thank you for this recipe. I know this was not exactly a teriyaki sauce which i made, but your recipes help me a lot with great snack items. Lots of love! 💜🥰☺️
