Crispy Tofu Nuggets

Instructions

Step 1:

If using frozen tofu, remove water from packaging. Place tofu in packaging directly in freezer overnight.

Step 2:

The day of making this, remove from freezer and thaw completely, press 10 minutes between paper towels. If using refrigerated tofu, press for 10-20 minutes between paper towels to remove water.

Step 3:

While the tofu is being pressed, make the marinade. Combine all the marinade ingredients together in a bowl until well combined.

Step 4:

Break the tofu is sizes of choice and pour the marinade over. Let sit 10 minutes up to an hour.

Step 5:

When ready to cook tofu, warm up oil to 350º F in pot or saucepan. You can airfry at 375º for a healthier option.

Step 6:

Make a breading station by combining 2 cups flour, baking powder, spices, 1 tsp salt and pepper in a shallow bowl.

Step 7:

In a separate shallow bowl, combine the non-dairy milk, vinegar, ½ cup flour, paprika, 1 tsp of salt and pepper

Step 8:

Using a spoon, pour small amounts of the wet batter into the dry batter, use about 3 tablespoons of wet batter. Little pieces should form.

Step 9:

Coat marinated tofu in the wet batter first, then carefully move to the dry batter. Do the process again so that it has been coated twice in the wet and dry batter

Step 10:

Set on wire rack or plate until oil is ready. When oil has reached 350º place the coated pieces in the oil. If air frying, place in air fryer and drizzle oil over the top of each piece.

Step 11:

Cook for 6-8 minutes flipping at the halfway mark. Once they reach golden brown and crispy, they are ready to be taken out. If air frying, cook 10-12 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Step 12:

Transfer to wire rack or towel lined dish. Sprinkle with salt as desired. Enjoy!
