Vegan Un-Chicken Tenders

1/2 Cup All-Purpose Flour

1/2 Cup Bread Crumbs (optional)

1 Tsp Salt

1 Tsp White Pepper

1 Tsp Garlic Powder

1 Tsp Onion Powder

1 Tsp Smoked Paprika

1 Cup Vegan Milk of Choice (unsweetened)

1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Package Seitan Shape of Choice

Vegetable Oil (for cooking)


Step 1:

If you can't find tender shapes of seitan, do not fret, heres a hack. I buy the gardein pieces or planks, and defrost. Then I combine in one bowl together. Taking a bit at a time, I form into whatever form I want. This is an easy hack alternatively to making your own seitan.

Step 2:

Freeze until ready to use. If using immediately, still allow to sit in freezer for at least 15 minutes until dredging.

Step 3:

In a medium shallow bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Stir until combined well.

Step 4:

In a separate shallow bowl, combine the milk and vinegar. Stir together. It is natural for it to separate.

Step 5:

Take the seitan strips from the freezer and drop in the milk mixture then into the dry mixture. Do this again two or three more times.

Step 6:

Set aside for a few minutes and heat oil.

Step 7:

In a dutch oven or pan heat your oil over medium heat. There should be at least 1" of oil in the pan. Alternatively, place the strips into the air fryer, but spray or brush with oil.

Step 8:

Cook about 3 minutes per side or until golden brown. If using air fryer, cook at 400º F for 4-5 minutes.

Step 9:

Sprinkle with salt as they rest on a towel to absorb excess oil, and serve immediately.
